Description
The most exclusive category of Chianti Classico, the Gran Selezione – is made using only the best grapes on the estate, and differs from the other categories of Chianti Classico in its longer minimum ageing times and much more restrictive acidity, alcohol and dry extract levels.
2008 was the first harvest of our small and extremely well exposed new vineyard (5000 plants per hectare, trained to Guyot), destined to produce our Gran Selezione.
- Grapes varieties: 100% Sangiovese
- Vinification: Maceration and alcoholic fermentation are conducted in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures (25-30°C). This is followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation in concrete vats.
- Maturation and refinement: The “Gran Selezione” matures for 24 months in 700-litre French oak tonneaux. A minimum of 6 months of bottle ageing follows.
- Alcohol content: 14 %
- Total acidity: 5.3 g/l
- Net dry extract: 28 g/l
Organoleptic characteristics of the wine
- Colour: intense ruby red.
- Aroma: opening with cherry notes, then violet, tobacco and hints of undergrowth.
- Taste: fresh and intense, the taste is accompanied by notes of red berries. Elegant, clean and persistent closure. It goes well with mature cheeses and main courses of red meat, both grilled and stewed. This “Gran Selezione” reflects all the commitment, dedication, expertise and best qualities that our territory can express.
